I started job hunting in Chicago. There is a great likelihood that if i find a job it's going to be in or around Downtown Chicago.

I am looking for a family friendly place to live, friendly, on a budget (safety being my #1 concern, with good schools).
Probably around 1600 maybe 1700. Commute not longer than 40 mins during heavy traffic.

Is there such a place?

Do you have to drive and is the location in the loop? Sometimes people refer to downtown chicago as all of town when locals just mean the area that contians the loop.

If you need to drive you are limited mostly to the near west burbs. If you can take the metra you have a much larger area to search from.

Also due to traffic and expensive parking most people who work n the loop do not drive to the loop.

If you are right downtown like at the Willis Tower you can get downtown in about that time from Naperville on the BNSF. N Michigan Avenue, while a prestigious business address, is considerably harder to reach.

Yeah but Napervile to north michigan ave. is about an hour in rush hour traffic. Metra can still win out there nor is Napervile a near west burb.
