I was wondering what the best spot to move to would be?

Currently I pay 600 bucks a month that includes utilities. What my plan is to is to move closer to Chicago. Even if that means moving to Waukegan but I think I could go a little more South. Any ideas where to move?

I basically have no friends in the burbs anymore as they have all moved to the city but I'm stuck out here because of my career.

Any ideas?

What is your maximum rental budget?

If you work near the METRA station in Waukegan, you can live in the city, take METRA to Waukegan, then walk to work.

Metra isn't close to my job at all

Something that puts you on the METRA line for weekends so you can hang out with your friends and is still reasonably close to work. I would suggest Deerfield because that METRA line is 24/7. Plus it'll be a 30 minute ride to Waukegan for work.

You know Metra has arrived on the internet now. A minute of research would tell you that no Metra line runs 24/7 and the line that runs through Deerfield doesn't go to Waukegan. Otherwise, great advice!

Oh, and Deerfield is one the pricier towns in Chicagoland. The OP's $600 budget might get him a nice cardboard box.

How about Libertyville? It has a Metra although it doesn't run to Waukegan, but you could get downtown easily enough on it, and easy access to I94. And there are places you might make new friends there too.

30 minute car ride. If you bothered to read the original exchange, he said he can't take METRA to work in Waukegan.

I did read the OP. If you bothered to read the post I responded to, you would have seen that every point he made was factually wrong. That was the only point I was trying to make.

After pondering all night, I think Des Plaines might be just about perfect. It's a walkable, diverse, affordable inner ring suburb. It's near the Tri-State Tollway for a fairly easy ride to Waukegan. You'll be going against traffic. Most people head south from Lake County towards O'Hare in the morning, and back out in the evening. There's Metra service into Chicago, and if that isn't convenient, the Blue Line is a short drive away.

Except that I posted 850 is my budget...
