I do however like the more city/artistic and diverse vibe Oak Park has to offer. What are schools like in Oak Park? We have no interest in paying for private schools.
You're likely to have your neighbors right on top of you in all the suburbs mentioned, and yes Oak Park, even more so. But Oak Park does have flavor and culture. Hinsdale fits into that "bland and perfect" I mentioned earlier. Nothing wrong with that, just a snooze fest. I think Hinsdale is still a dry town as well.

You'll have to go out further from Chicago to get some yard space, or spend more cash to get a double lot or find the rare spaced out subdivision.

We just moved to Glen Ellyn from MA this past May (my wife is from Westport, CT...I married up). We love Glen Ellyn, it has a lot of New England charm. I commute to the city daily and it takes 1/2 hour to Chicago. Its a great, serene, safe community....with good schools (north of Roosevelt). We are both in our 30's with a 1 year old and two dogs. We also looked in WS, La Grange, etc etc and liked the communities, but Glen Ellyn edged them out.

Thanks Tom! Are you parking at the daily commute lot by the library? How's the walk to the station? We're temporarily living in Naperville. I love the downtown area here (and Centennial Beach) but the houses in the subdivisions lack character and charm. There are nice houses in the historic district downtown. Most of the houses I gravitate to are in Glen Ellyn. We love the east coast feel there. How are the resources in Glen Ellyn? Any perspective would be helpful--commute to city, parking, resources, pool community, restaurants etc...
Best!
