I know there is another thread on Island Lake here, but it has turned into an argument about whether or not the school system in Wauconda is better than Barrington. Personally, I couldn't care less about the school system as my wife and I have no kids and don't plan on having any.

My question is regarding Island Lake itself. We are looking to buy a house on Island Lake and I wanted to hear from anybody who is experienced with the area. It appears to be in a funk as of late with a lot of houses for sale and the prices are very cheap. Is there any specific reason for this decline? We were thinking it is victim to the housing market and possibly because of higher gas prices forcing people to move closer to work.

Any input on this subject is greatly appreciated!

All the houses are on Island Lake, which makes it really cool. Other than that, I don't know much about the place, other than I can swim in the lake without fear of nets.

There has been a feud between the Mayor and four trustees, resulting in legal fees of $171,000 so far, on who has the power to hire and fire. This is about the only news in this normally quiet community, so I am surprised nobody mentioned this.
