I know, these rankings and 50 cents will get you a cup of coffee, but living out here(well actually Geneva) it is a well deserved award. I have said it for a while on this forum, but the fox valley area offers an excellent way of life at an affordable rate with all the ammenties needed and close to other wonderful burbs and the city of Chicago!

St Charles has always been known as a good place for families, even if boring for singles. And 50 cents for a cup of coffee? Where have you been? Obviously not Starbucks.

Is it ironic that they closed down all the good coffee shops in St. Charles? Teehee.

Also, I was joking the other day that it must be a prerequisite for any "Best family town" to have 10 bars in a half mile stretch and drunk drivers effin rampant on Saturday nights...

LOL, yes St. Charles does have it share of downtown bars, that is for sure, but it also has a wonderful park district, very good schools, great festivals, and the most vibrant downtown in the Chicagoland area outside of only Naperville, Evanston. Have you been to the arcada recently, Hugh Jackman, Kenny Loggins, Wayne Newton, etc. IMO, the 1st street project has turned out fabulous and is very vibrant.
Empty grounds where the condos were supposed to go due to the housing crash next to Za Za's, but hey that is everywhere!

I read the article, mostly agree except for the jobs part. Anyone who lives out here in the tri-cities knows that job growth is kind of a joke. Mostly everyone works in schaumburg or Naperville areas. One of those cities where people live but do not work - which tends to be the case with some high end burbs as well.

However if you are into outdoor rec it is great. I mostly like the fact that you can buy a house for $125,000 or 1.2 million... a WIDELY diverse housing stock.

The 1st Street project was completely unnecessary. There was nothing wrong with what was already there. The Manor was a local institution. Now it's gone and there's nothing in its place but an empty field.

Have you been downtown on the weekends? If you call that "boring for singles", then I dont think you know the meaning of the word.

Yeah lots of pubs, too many for some tastes. I think some like dance clubs, of which there are none here that I know of. I think there is finally a wine bar, have not tried it though. I liked the antique shops better but ebay is taking the place of those now anyway. If we want shops we go to Geneva. STC park district facilities are excellent btw.
