Decent part of town? Decent area for average white couple with 2 kids to move into? Don't mind diversity in the area...just concerned with a decent neighborhood, have no idea what the area is like.

What's your price range for a house? IMO, I would stay out of Elgin because the schools there are terrible, unless you wanted to send your kids to private.

Thanks for the info. Probably very little, to be honest. It could be as a move for a job...probably not paying much. Is there affordable housing within a reasonable commute that has better schools?
Just found out...the job might be in Eagle Heights area. I am totally clueless to the area...I honestly have no idea. Any thoughts?

Try South Elgin, the subdivisions that have D-303 St. charles school districts.

Even the Kaneland areas like Elburn, Sugar Grove, etc. are better than Elgin schools. Or you could go to the part of Elgin that goes to Burlington.

I don't know where you are moving from but even the cheaper areas of chicago metro is expen$ive compared to many other parts of the country. Good luck!!

I would stay away from Elgin overall. S. Elgin probably ok though.
