Okay... this one is for the Chicago Suburbanites.. We are looking to move out of our Townhouse & want to move into a nice quiet home ~ 3,000 square feet and a little bit of land in an area that is quiet, charming, and safe of course. with a charming warm, downtown area possibly we can walk to, to have coffee, a shopping area or even walk to the park. My problem is I am having a hard time finding a town that fits these needs. Other than going to Geneva, IL ( Naperville, IL is too loud and big.. ) Does anyone know of any small towns or areas that might fits more of our needs & wants. Without spending too much our retirement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance.

What is your budget and do you need to access downtown?

One town that would seem perfect for you is Frankfort. Quick I-57 access via US-30, AWESOME, charming downtown.... it even has a old-style bowling alley. It is very walkable and has old and newer houses, ranging from older Victorians to 2000s-era McMansions.

#1 consideration is where do you work? Chicagoland commutes can vary widely, and it can take 2 hours to get from one end of the area to the other.

If you don't mind going a little farther out NW, Crystal Lake is a great city that would have everything you are looking for. About an hour from downtown CHI.

Definatley need to know if your looking on the north side of the area , west side or south side as the commuting times can be rather long.

Frankfort is a lovely charming place but if you have to drive up north to the burbs its a drive
