I'm planning to move to suburbs from downtown to a bigger space (2BR 2 bath).

I'm debating between Schaumburg and Naperville.

I would like to know which city is better on these criteria. Statistics wise Naperville scores better but I want to know from people who lived in these areas or know about these areas firsthand.

Safety
Commute to Downtown (Driving/Metra).
Cheaper rent

I looked at Tree house of Schaumburg and really liked it for the price.
The reviews I looked at are mixed. Appreciate if someone who know this place can share some information.

Thanks

Metra from Naperville is far far far faster / more frequent than any option from Schaumburg.

Driving from Naperville may technically cover about the same distance, maybe even a little bit longer, but because you are not dealing with traffic related to O'Hare and the intensive shopping / office developments total delays are not quite as bad...

Without knowing more about why you are considering these location I might suggest you are missing a whole lot of towns that are whole lot closer and might make for better commute / better overall value...

Of course, Naperville is famous for being short of parking at their train station. Unless you can live in walking distance from the station or along a shuttle bus route you will need to get there by 6 AM.

I've heard that a lot on this board about the parking situation in Naperville, but we've never experienced that problem first-hand at the Rt. 59 station, fwiw.

Next time I am out there and there are rows of empty spaces maybe I'll snap some photos to help get the truth out...

There may be many open spaces but they are probably permit only until after 9 A.M. The City uses a complex algorithm to determine number of permits to sell, possibly 1.2 x number of spaces based on maximum usage, and a safety factor. Permit spaces are a guaranteed revenue stream. Daily fee spaces are not, so they prefer to set aside only enough to produce full occupancy on normal days.

Naperville is nicer than Schaumburg.

The apartments around there seem nice too. I've been over in that area to get my smog checked, and I've noticed the big complex across from the station. Seems like a pleasant area.

I am thinking you got your hour wrong in that message, I have always gotten a spot when taking the 7:06 or 7:22 train. It isn't the lot right next to the station, but there are always spots available.

Why just Naperville and Schaumburg?? The Tree House means you need a car to go anywhere except Culver's and Wendy's. Why not look into downtown Arlington Heights? Rent in Avalon or Dunton tower and you can walk to train station, restaraunts, coffe shops, movie theater, live theater, work out places, and public library.
