Hi,

Hubby and I are house hunting in the north shore suburbs from Evanston all the way to Highland Park.

He is a major fitness nut, and one of the things that makes him the most happy is a great gym. Currently he belongs to East Bank Club.

I did a search for gyms and health clubs, and the only one I am really familiar with that I know is great quality (new equipment, clean and nice inside, not too busy) is Equinox in Highland Park. I currently belong to Equinox in Lincoln Park and love it, but am hoping there is more than just this one option in Highland Park.

My question is, what else is there?? There must be more gyms of excellent quality in this neck of the woods. We wouldn't want to pay more than $1000 initiation fee per person.

Please help!

Life Time fitness, several locations. Slightly lower, and more affordable, are Centre Club in Libertyville and Gurnee, and Highland Park Hospital fitness center. Honorable mention Midtown Athletic, several locations.

X-Sport is decent too, but you'd probably want to stick with Equinox or probably Lifetime based off of what you have described.

It's not Equinox, but he LA Fitness in Highland Park is nice. It was just built about a year and a half ago (it wasn't a name change from one facility to another) so the place has all new, very good equipment, decent sized pool, etc. It's not open 24 hours, which is nice, because they can actually keep it clean that way. It's worth a look if you are at or near HP.

I would stay away from XSport. I'm a current member, and this gym is nowhere near the standards the OP is looking for. I would say the Midtown Athletic Club in Bannockburn would me one to check out depending on where the OP moves to. I had a free month membership to one of the other Midtown clubs and absolutely loved it. I however couldn't afford the dues.

Default Midtown Bannockburn

I would think twice about joining Midtown Bannockburn. There has been a rash of break ins there with car windows being smashed and belongings stolen. The club did not do anything to warn its members about this. This club is all about getting you signed up -you're on your own after that.
