One of the houses that we had seen lately is backing up to a cornfield in Lake County. Can someone throw some light on the any (if any) potential health hazards in living by a cornfield?

Most of the corn farmers that I know are well into their eighties with few health problems. And they live surrounded by corn fields.

They use pesticides and during harvesting a lot of dust gets kicked up. The biggest problem with living near a cornfield is you don't know what will be built there once the land is sold. It may be residential, but it could end up as a busy mall or even industrial.

And in the Fall when they plow the field you can expect some mice if your really close to the field. I lived with that for years but it was a small price to pay considering the 131 acres if loud, obnoxious soccer fields that replaced the peaceful, quite corn.

You'll need to drive everywhere. Being unable to walk around a neighborhood could lead to obesity and the health problems that go with it.

seriously, on the plus side with the housing and commercial markets down, especially in the exurbs, i doubt anything gets built anytime soon.
