My husband and I are researching suburbs that are close to the city so he can get to and from work easily but we want to be near our extended family in Lisle and Naperville. What are suburbs close by that we should research as well but also close to the downtown area? THX!

Default The Only Way To Fly

Dear Friend:

METRA has some sort of advertising phrase. I paraphrase it from memory - - as the METRA railroad system being the only way to fly. And that is literally true in the Chicago land areas. IF you don't ride the railroad systems from the suburbs, you are going to quickly hate the Chicago area rush hour traffic. Since you recite Lisle and Naperville, Illinois in particular - - you should be somewhere along the METRA - - Burlington - Northern railroad system. So locate a suburban town of your choice between Naperville and the railroad's Chicago down town terminus known as Union Station. When you have decided upon a particular locale, then personally visit the place to form your own opinions.

Best Regards,

Carter Glass

Good suggestion to look at the train route! I will do that. Also was just hoping to get a bit more insight into areas near by those locales that arent cookie cutter housing, unique homes, good safe neighborhoods with yards etc. and a good place to raise a family! Any advise?

The towns along the BNSF train line between Chicago and Lisle are all older, established towns so there isn't much cookie cutter housing. Your price range will really determine which places to look at. Basically, from most to least expensive the family-friendly towns are:
Hinsdale/Clarendon Hills
Western Springs
La Grange
Riverside
Downers Grove
