Does anyone know how far south the Dominick's grocery chain extend south of the Chicago area? My wife works for Safeway and I'm trying to get an idea of jobs for her.

Thanks

Tony

I'm not sure. I was in the Joliet area today and saw one. My InLaws are in central IL and there are no Dominicks there. I would assume about 1.5 hours outside of the city. Perhaps look at a Dominicks website and see if they list their locations. I can't think of any south of Joliet.

Dominick's website shows there are no stores in the Kankakee area. They really don't extend south of I-80.

Default Wait just a minute

Dominick's is near death, and most likely will not exist for very much longer.

I worked for Al Jensen Store 73, Store 100, member of UFCW back in the early eighties "the so called hey day" and since the early 90's a complete spiral downward, they have the highest prices, worst employee management relations, and squeezed from every direction by competitors.

They just closed my dominick's on 159th street, less than a year after it was built, Food 4 Less now occupies the property.

Dominick's is the 8 Track of grocery stores, remember what happened to the 8 Track

The Dominicks on Odgen and Naper is closed as well. I personally rarely shop there because I find it much more expensive and I find my local Dominicks is laid out in such an odd way. I can never find anything in there easily. However, I do like their Deli and "take out" section.

My wife works for Safeway, who owns Dominicks, I just took a job with the railroad and depending where they send me is whether she'll have a job or not when I get there. She's worked for Vons in CA, Carrs in Alaska and of course Safeway, all three were transfers due to the same owner. The only other option, is I get sent all the way east, there are Genuardi's in the NE that Safeway owns.

Thanks for the info.

Tony

They are opening a Dominick's store by my house over at Chicago Ave and Damen. We'll see how long it lasts.

But thankfully, with the opening of this Dominick's came an ordinance against restrictive covenants, so if they move out, another grocery will probably move in.
