I am a new graduate of a PA program in NYC. I am taking a job in Bradley, IL, but I would prefer to live a little closer to Chicago out of the fields. Ideal location: <1hr from Bradley, nice area, easy access to Chicago (train station close preferable). Also, I am only 24 years old and single, so I am not looking to be buying a house for the family just yet (probably looking to rent an apartment initially). I was considering Joliet, heard mixed things. Also considering University Park, but honestly, I know nothing about this area at all, so any suggestions of places to check out would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

For the record, Joliet is not going to put you very much closer to downtown Chicago. More in the suburbs yes, but getting to the city is very easy from the Bradley area. Expect to pay considerably more the farther north from Bradley you go, so hopefully that is not an issue.

Monee or Homewood?

Joliet is very west and completely out of the way. Bradley is pretty much a straight shot south from Chicago.. Unless your interest is in Joliet and not Chicago, I would strongly discourage it..

Why give yourself a commute like that?
Also, the closer to Chicago, the higher the rents.

(I used to live in the Chicago Loop)

Monee is just a half hour from Bradley. Not that bad of a commute.

I'm just looking for ideas closer to Chicago for when I fly out there to look at places and stuff. I'm just not sure if the Bradley area is a great spot for me personally. I understand rents will be higher, and that the commute will be a little longer, I'm really just trying to make sure I find a spot that I will be comfortable as a young new graduate. Thanks again for the advice, any new posts welcome.

The closest area to Bradley that would be more exciting for a young graduate would probably be Orland Park. Then again I am a soon to be graduate and will be living in Bourbonnais myself. I don't mind smaller cities though.

Wait, hold on. There ARE young graduates who are willing to move somewhere other than three neighborhoods on the north side of Chicago? Wow. This is shocking news to the Chicago City Data forum.
