How are you all doing? I'm up on Channel Lake in Antioch. Our seawall looks like it's the last to go and I'm guessing it will be breached later today. 9 hours of sandbagging yesterday with more hours ahead today. So far only lost a water heater and some personal effects.

I'm guessing 173 will be water covered at some point. It's reminiscent of 9/12/2001 with the lake completely empty of boat traffic. I've never seen it this quiet.

Default Good Luck To You!

I've been keeping an eye on my former home town of Algonquin, looks like they're still in for it - even without further rain - due to the waters coming down the Fox from Wisconsin.

I'm in the southern portion of Libertyville. I heard today that 173 was flooded and possibly closed. Why is Townline/60 in Vernon Hills closed?

Traffic was kinda a mess today on Milwaukee.

Fox River is bloated, but I haven't seen any flooding issues here in the St. Charles / South Elgin / Geneva area.

Des Plaines is a big mess. Most east-west streets, the ones crossing the Des Plaines River, are closed due to flooding. All traffic is being routed onto one or two remaining open streets. Needless to say, long backups are all over the place.

Default Valley vs plain...

Having taught the basics of regional geology a few times I often used the differences, caused by ancient patterns of glaciation, to show kids how living near a river but higher up from the floor the valley, is likely better than living on a plain where the wetlands are at nearly the same level as the surrounding chain of lakes.

The relative change in elevation from the river front in Geneva is especially notable -- the tightly packed topo lines are quite evident -- https://www.topoquest.com/map.php?la...zoomin&size=xl
