Gurnee is probably a nicer place to LIVE.

Waukegan is more the kind of place most people do leave...

Personally, I'd leave both. Way too far away from everything.

Tend to agree, but not just distance. There are lots of people that have jobs in the big pharma companies in Lake Co. Nicer places like Libertyville and the North Shore do get pricey. Everybody has to accept some trade offs. Problem with Waukegan is too much of its water front is unlike the rest of Illinois -- little thought to recreation overr industry...

I guess Gurnee is a better place to leave. Go to Six Flags for a day and leave. But never live there.

I've lived in the area my whole life. I don't know what the hate against Gurnee is for, but yeah don't move to Waukegan. Gurnee is much safer by far and has better looking neighborhoods.

For shopping, there's nothing you can't find between Gurnee Mills and the Vernon Hills area (15 minutes away). For entertainment and recreation, you're pretty much right in the middle of Chicago and Milwaukee, and the tollway gets you to either in ~45 minutes.

Thing is, I only know of a handful of apartment complexes, and there can be a considerable gap in rent between them. What kind of price range are you looking for?

Gurnee for SURE! I've lived in or around it most of my life. Waukegan is a dump with a much higher crime rate.

Thanks. Looks like majority people like Gurnee better than Waukegan. I am looking for a 1 bedroom apartment in 1000$ range. Any suggestions of nice apartment communities?
