Hi everyone,
We are in town for the Ryder Cup and staying in Deerfield. We have a birthday to celebrate tonight and are looking for a place with good food and atmosphere but not overly formal or elegant (we'll be wearing nice jeans and have a one year-old with us). Any suggestions? Thank you!

Default Hmm, the "one year old" is kind of wildcard on Friday night...

If you were asking about M-Th I would whole heartedly recommend Wildfire which is nice resturant for steaks, seafood and the sort of updated classic big salads & sandwiches that lots of folks consider worth "going out for" but Friday & Saturday the crowd tends to be very thin on folks with their children in tow...

If you like seafood and nice steaks I can recommend Bob Chinn's in nearby Wheeling BUT the place is known for HUGE crowds and even though they deal with the crowd in award-winning fashion it can be a challenge to wait with a one-year old...

There is a nice dark old-school sit down place call Carson's For Ribs that is family friendly but the food is really very old school too -- meaty pork ribs and only a few other options.

Other end of the lighting spectrum Max & Benny's in Northbook is a deli-oriented place that is bustling from breakfast through lunch and onto through their very good dinner menu. They close at 9PM but they do serve wine and cocktails as well as delicious desserts / pastries so the grown-ups are not neglected. Might be your best overall compromise on a Friday...

check out the Claim Company in Northbrook Court. along with a pretty good menu, they offer a fantastic salad bar that is a meal in itself with really great items at an amazingly good price.

Default thank you for your suggestions!

We ate at Wildfire and felt quite welcomed with our one year-old since we went at 5:30pm (she is pretty well behaved too, mostly). We had a very nice meal and I appreciate the recommendation!

Default Glad it worked out!

Wildfire is generally a great choice. Though "Lettuce Entertain You" is a national/global resturant business the ownership and historic roots are still very much under the watchful of eye of Rich Melman, his family and close associates. Hard to beat!

Hope you saw some great match-ups at Medina, tough loss for the US team. Not gonna break my heart eiher way...
