We are a young couple with a 6 month old baby looking for a safe neighborhood in a community with great schools and LOTS to offer. Our house budget is about $200K.

Can anyone give us some insight into the pros and cons of Romeoville and Bolingbrook?? Can you also let us know if there are any areas in each city that we might not want to live?

How are the schools?

Lots of shopping?

Good neighborhoods?

Any other important info?

If I were you, I would pick the parts of Bolingbrook and Romeoville that feed into Plainfield Schools. Valley View is not a great district (where the majority of B-Brook and Romeoville attends)
Maybe possibly Crest Hill, they feed into Change Monge, Richland and Plainfield Schools. They share park district facilities with Lockport.

Stick to Bolingbrook West of Weber
Romeoville near Weber Road

As far as shopping, head on Weber Rd south in Romeoville they have a Super Wal Mart, Target, Kohls Dominicks

If you go in Bolingbrook, head on Weber Rd North and they have a Meijers, walmart etc
If you go on Boughton Rd, you will see the Promenade, which has a Macy's, Bass Pro Shops, etc

Romeoville is close to I-55, Rt 171 (Archer Rd), 53
Bolingbrook is closet o I-55, 355 and 53

Firstly I would want to know where you currently live and work. If ain't close to either Romeoville or Bolingbrook I would likely recommend looking closer to work. Even if you do currently work close to either town but there is any possibility that your work situation may change it may make sense to try to find a spot a little more centrally located.

The place to start looking for the best performing schools is the list of schools cite for Academic Excellence by the Illinois State Board of Education Honor Roll of Illnois Schools

We are currently living with family in Geneva. My husband works at the Museum of Science and Industry. We know the commute won't be great, but we're hoping it will be better than the nearly 2 hours it is now. We have family in Oswego as well and would like to be fairly close to them too.

Bolingbrook or Romeoville would be an insane commute unless you just don't ever want to spend any waking hours together.

Please Note: Romeoville is a city with no left turns allowed. You will risk your life having to make U-turns legal or not. The only other choice will be driving out of your way to the nearest light, turn around then come back. Waste of time and Gas. FACT: Burger King on Normantown Rd, has lost a lot of their business due to no left turn on Normantown Rd. Romeoville will however, let you make on U-turn at Normantown and Weber. Very risky and dangerous. I will give some serious thought before moving to Romeoville, unless you will not mind driving in circles wasting time and gas.

Between the two I would take Bolingbrook, closer to expressways, less "out there", and I just like Bolingbrook better for some reason. Neither of these two places would be my first choices of nearby burbs to live in though. Both areas housing is way down which menas you can get a lot of house for your money but they seem to continue to fall in value and they are kinda far out there. like others have said unless they go to plainfield schools not hte best schools. where do you currently live and work? like others said there may be better options

I'd go with parts of Bolingbrook that were already mentioned above. But yes the drive will be hell. I-55/Weber ramp is a rush hour disaster.
