I've been looking for a place for my sister in the NWS and every single complex has a ban on bigger breeds. I'm guessing our only chance is to find an owner who is renting out their place?
She has a friendly 5yr old pit mix looking for a 1 bedroom for $700-1100 we've worked with Agents (who fail to understand our question of which breeds are banned before wasting out time showing us places) put a call into apt people and searched CL. Any other sites worth looking at?

Looking for Schaumbug area north to Palatine East to Arlington hts/Elk Grove south to Lombard/Wheaton/Carol stream west to Bartlett.

You are going to have difficulty, no doubt. You best bet is a detached or duplex where you won't have an condo association or apartment complex rules to deal with because even if the owner initially says OK they may find out they can't when they ask their association. Offer to pay an additional security and any additional insurance costs incurred by the landlord as a result plus maintain your own renter's insurance. You may have to expand your area because in the areas you named your price range is a complex not a detached home. I'd definitely check the local papers of the areas where you want to live. Hopefully you have good credit and don't smoke because you would have 3 strikes against you with a dog, smoking and bad credit. If you have great credit bring a copy to show, lead with that as it holds lots of weight and can often tip the scales.

I have a chow mix so I understand it can be hard. I was always able to find private individuals to rent from and found it beneficial to offer to let them meet my dog. Generally once they met him and got references from previous land lords (that he was well behaved) they were more than happy to rent to me.
