What would the commute time be from East Dundee to O'hare during rush hour? It is about a 30 minute drive with no traffic. Please help. We are moving to chicago area soon and are not sure how far out to look for houses. We would like to keep the commute within 30 to 40 minutes.

Rush hour will make thus commute very much longer, in addition to the fact that properlty values are greatly effected by the quality of schools. These factors contribute to the relative non-desirability of ED...

If you are looking to buy your price points and needs as far as schools for children would be helpful.

Thanks. We are looking to rent for the time being, until we get to know the area and our child is no where near school age. There is a very nice house for rent but we need to know about the commute time. Thanks for your input.

The toll booths on I-90 stack up at rush hour, you definitely would want to get I-PASS. Based on my experience driving I-90 at rush hour, I would guess you could do it in an hour on a good day, but it could be much longer than that based on traffic and weather conditions. For example, I commuted from Naperville to Arlington Heights for five years, and maybe 5% or of the time I'd suffer through a 2 to 2.5 hour commute (due to traffic accidents or bad road conditions). In my experience, you need to scan the traffic reports, and have alternate routes for getting to work around here. I knew every alternate route between Naperville and Arlington Heights. The other thing people will do if they have the flexibility is adjust their work start/end times to avoid the worst of the rush hour.

Can you check traffic websites for travel time from Elgin Tollbooth to River Road Tollbooth on I-90? Do that for a while and you'll get a feel for it. Due to fog I believe it was over an hour today. This is not a commute I would recommend. I would think you could find something desirable closer in.
