I was offered a job by my brother in law in Cicero and I haven't lived in Chicago in 20 years.
How close can I get to Cicero without being shot for
walking to the store? I was thinking about Downers Grove?
At least I have family all over there,so that should help? I hope, LOL

Believe me there is no rash of random shooting plaguing Cicero. If you care to live in town it would be cheaper than pretty much anywhere else. Adjacent Berwyn is quieter and not much more costly. Towns like Lyons, Brookfield, Lagrange or Countryside all would be far closer than Downers Grove and cheaper too.

If you do have kids that need schools Downers would be a good choice, but other areas like Oak Park would result in faster travel times.

What did they do, melt the block of ice you were frozen in? Today, it's generally accepted that you don't have to live in the far western suburbs to be safe. A lot of middle class people are moving back to inner ring suburbs and even the city now. It has changed so much that some of the far western suburbs that were popular 20 years ago are seeing Section 8 and other elements that were restricted to the inner city back in 1992.

Because that's what happens to everyone who moves to Cicero. They get shot while walking to the store.

Seriously though, look at these responses. Even Chet Everett is saying you don't have to move to Dupage to not get shot walking to the store..

Obviously this is a gross exaggeration.

Many of course get stabbed instead of shot.

OK,I was exaggerating a little. I lived in an apartment in Norridge around that skating ring the Axle.
I miss it ;it was a decent hood and not upscale at all. How about Oak Park area?

Southern Oak Park along the Berwyn/Cicero border will probably remind you a lot of Norridge.

Jeez Drover even I don't think southern Oak Park is as bland as Norridge...
