I was wondering what area people in Chicagoland are referring to when they use these terms. Being "down south" in Kankakee county, when I say I'm "going up north", I'm usually referring to areas like Orland Park or anywhere around the i80 corridor in general. If I'm going downtown I simply say "downtown", anywhere west of downtown I will say "near O'Hare" or "west suburbs" for areas west of 355, or if I'm going to the north suburbs, like Great America for example, I say "up near Wisconsin". I'm sure the references vary depending on your location. What area are you referring to when you use these terms?
