Lynwood is in the south suburbs. And it touches Indiana (ie: it's extremely east).

It's a mixed bag. Unless you're coming from Indiana, you're probably gonna have to pass through Ford Heights and/or Sauk Village to get there. But Lynwood itself is a more pleasant area with trailers parks, mcmansions and the older part of town with more modest houses.. It feels a little bit like an island with not a whole lot there.

So the town is pretty mixed income? How are the roads and highway access in the area?

Well, it depends on where you're trying to go, I guess. 394 runs through the western edge of Lynwood. This turns into I-94 and will take you to Chicago. That, Torrence Avenue and Route 30 I guess are the major roads.

BTW - Torrence will actually take you to Chicago too but not very far into it. It ends at somewhere around 103rd street. The Ford plant is on Torrence. Lynwood is in pretty close proximity to BOTH Ford plants..

Oh that's excellent news! My husband will be working at one of those locations. The homes seem to be affordable as well. Btw, where is the downtown Lynwood Joe Orr Rd area?

Well, I guess it would be on Joe Arr Road. I'm not that familiar with Lynwood. I'm just from the area. If someone told me to go to Lynwood's "downtown Joe Arr Road area," I would just drive east on Joe Arr and assume I'd come upon some dinky little "downtown". I've never actually driven past State Street on Joe Arr. Lynwood is way east - Indiana bound.

What I will say about Lynwood - I heard that tattoo parlor on Route 30 is top notch. The one on the north side of the road that you see right before rolling into Indiana. A friend of mine highly recommends the guy.

The downtown Joe Orr Rd. area is Joe Orr Rd. between Stony Island and Torrence. There has been talk for several years of developing the area with retail and dining, but I don't know of any concrete plans. There are newer subdivisions in Lynwood with some really nice houses. I used to teach in one of the school districts that serves the community, so if you have questions about the schools, then I can help.

Whoops, I repeatedly misspelled Joe Orr.

Lynwood has a lot of new subdivisions and has improved over the last decade or two. But If I was looking that far out east, I probably would look at south holland which is closer in as my first choice. South Holland has demographics that are in line with other desirable bedroom suburban communities and is a bit more stable of a community then lynwood. The marriage rate for south holland households is slightly above 60 percent. And widowed residents make up another 8 percent of households. I think south holland is considered to be more preferred location wise also. It's not too far east.
