After visiting most of the west-side towns West of Chicago, we have set our sights on Glen Ellyn. We loved the duck pond and park near downtown, the downtown shops (they have an independent bookstore and bakery), and the trees.

Does anyone have any insight about the neighborhoods within Glenn Ellyn, especially South of Roosevelt? We are looking for a newer (post-1970) house with a lot of space (>2000 sf inside inside and >0.25 acres out), a basement, and a family room in a neighborhood with at least partial sidewalks. We have two kids, both 2 yrs old so it would be nice to find a family-friendly neighborhood. Our budget is up to 450K. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are many nice areas in Glen Ellyn. The most desirable though (with exceptions) is in town, and especially near the Lake Ellyn area. However, in your price range looking south of Roosevelt would be prudent. Also look in Wheaton, its right next door and a great town, great schools, great stores, and nice homes. Wonderful parks.
