My husband and I are looking into a relo to North Chicago suburbs for a job.

Schools are very important to us with an emphasis on fine arts/theater, math, science, debate/forensics.
Safety is another big concern.
Other "nice to have" options would be close to a metra line (to Chicago), somewhat close to Lake Michigan, walkable to restaurants, library, etc.
House would need to have some type of a yard, but would not need to be massive.

Budget is $500-$800k and we'd need a minimum of 4 BDR.

We'd ideally like to be within 20-40 minutes commute to Deerfield and/or O'Hare.

Any advice on areas to look would be appreciated.

Highland Park or Lake Forest are probably great choices for you if you want to live in a shore town.

Highland Park's Fine Arts department is really fantastic. Following is a Facebook link to the theatre department. This year's musical was Les Miserables (if you scroll down to the February 9th post you can watch/hear a partial dress rehearsal performance of "One Day More").

Highland Park is also known for its strong debate team:

Finally, a link to HPHS general Facebook page, where you can see many of the achievements of HPHS students and staff.

+1 for Highland Park. The fine arts department is top notch. They also have an arts festival in April every other year called Focus on the arts. HP has multiple metra stops: Highland Park, Ravinia, and Braeside. HP also has one of the best suburban downtowns in the chicagoland area and there are many great restaurants there. Downtown Ravinia (in the Ravinia area of HP) also has a lot of great restaurants too. Another thing that HP is known for is Ravinia Festival which is an outdoor concert place where many famous singers perform.

Thanks for the feedback.
We're definitely moving there and will be house hunting in the next month.
