A few questions for anybody willing to help:
--how long is winter (i.e. shoveling)? I am sick of shoveling.
--is Malta (5 miles west of Dekalb) a quiet town?

I have family in St. Charles IL. I live in Duluth Minnesota and I am seeking to escape the hellishly cold long winters, I can't take it anymore here. Today I had to shovel a foot of heavy snow, another foot coming in the next day or two, heavy wet snow. Then -20 wind chill arctic blast. Winter (snow, shoveling) here lasts six months, SIX MONTHS (yeah, snow in the mall parking lots until mid May), I am sick of it after decades. Thought of moving to Oregon with very little snow there in the valley (Eugene/Portland) but family counts a lot-- Malta/Dekalb is only 30 miles from family in St. Charles (expensive city) and being able to visit family would be nice. I am retired from college teaching, so a quieter area like Malta appeals to me, yet with Dekalb a few miles away for shopping, etc. I imagine Dekalb can get noisy in some neighborhoods because of the huge college student population?
