I'm moving to Chicagoland but don't want to be within Chicago city limits. I have been looking into some North/NW Suburbs that might be good for me, but let me list some basic info/criteria and see what you guys think:

-Closer to Lake Michigan the better (giving an edge to North Shore or near-North Shore over the NW at this point).
-I telecommute/remote work 100% so commute time won't be issue.
-I like outdoor activities such as biking, hiking/trails, cross-country skiing, ideally would find area with good amount of green space too. Somewhat bicycle friendly too?
-I am 26 year old Chinese-American male, single, don't need lots of clubs/nightlife but want to be in area with other young single professionals, not just family area.
-Foodie and like to cook, so access to diverse restaurant choices and prefer some Asian supermarkets nearby.
-Will be renting studio or 1bd apartment btw.

So far I was looking in the Evanston, Skokie, Morton Grove, Niles, Glenview, Wilmette block, but what do you think of those areas any I should for sure stay away from? Or other suggestions? Any NW suburbs that I should consider too?

Thank you.

What kind of biking do you do? Mostly paths or are you a "roadie"?

Based on your criteria I think downtown Evanston would be hard to beat.

Evanston has a couple of good cycling clubs. But you either drive to Lake Co or navigate a lot of suburban streets before you are in the country. From where I'm at in Arlington Heights, it's 5 miles of sub-divisions and then Lake Co and beyond which is great for roadies and more country like. If you lived in downtown AH it would be about 8-9 miles and using pretty tolerable non-busy streets to reach Lake Co. If I was moving into a new area, I would spend time looking at where the desirable cycling is, how far from me it is and if I can cycle there safely and enjoyably. The cycling club I ride with is Wheeling Wheelmen, there are many others throughout the area.
