Hi!!

My husband and I are planning to start an eleven month course in Chicago (EF) in september 2014 and we are looking for some Pet friendly (We have a Golden Retriever ) location (for rent) near the city that will accomodate the three of us during that period. Do you have any suggestions about the Chicago suburbs? Which one is preferred by dog owners? safe and not too expensive?? All suggestions are welcome!!!
Thanks!

SERIOUSLY? People have pets in every suburb in the area. Where specifically will the course be? What is your budget? How much room do you need?

You need to give more specifics before anyone can give you a helpful response. People have dogs in every suburb and every neighborhood of Chicago. Is having a private yard a requirement or will having parks nearby be sufficient? What is your budget? How much space do you want? Where will work be? What other interests do you have besides being a pet owner?

I saw some really nice dog facilities/parks in Lake County.

I live in Niles and the dog parks near me are dumps as well as being ovepriced like $50-100 per dog per year plus a vet report. Dogs are not allowed in any of the regular parks. I settle for taking them for walks, to the local Petsmart, and on the local trail Des plaines River Trail. Unfortunately Cook County doesn't do much for its citizens other than consume tax dollars and use them to give high paying jobs to their relatives and cronies.

Will county has beautiful dog parks. Especially Shorewood, but that may be far out.

You said pet friendly suburbs near the city. I imagine there are plenty of people that have pets in places like Evanston and Oak Park, but unless you have a single family home with a fenced in yard, I can't imagine that they are particularly pet friendly. Most suburbs are more pet friendly than the city as there is more space. Many have extensive park systems and places to walk your dog on a leash, and some have nice dog parks. If you are renting, the challenge will be to find someone who will allow the renter to have a dog.

I'm glad to see Evanston and Oak Park both have dog parks. Very helpful.

They do. It's mostly an excuse for people in La Grange to throw yard parties and get drunk. But there are pets too, along with local politicians, Jessie White Tumblers, fire trucks, and all of the other small town parade goodies.
