Is anyone familiar with the Longmeadow Subdivision in the northeast part of Downers Grove? Is it a friendly area and would it be a nice place to raise a family? What are the age and race demographics? How safe is the area?

Good north Downers location, reputation for great schools and for being very safe. There is a Trader Joe's walking distance on Ogden.

For demographics use City-Data.com's powerful interactive map tool. It allows you to view age/race/income data for an area as narrow as a subdivision. Just go to the City-Data.com homepage and find the "Interactive Data Map" in the middle of the page. Zoom-in (all the way) to Longmeadow. The drop-down menu at the top of the map allows you to change the filter (income, race, age, etc). Select your desired filter and click directly on Longmeadow to see more detailed info.

Hope that helps.

Very nice neighborhood, great for families. In addition to the Trader Joe store also has nice Oberweiss Dairy / Ice Cream Store. Former Dominick's is going to be Caputo's Grocer.

Terrific Downer Grove parks.

Housing stock mostly nice sized two- stories and split levels on roomy lots.

A good value, especially compared to neighboring sections of Oak Brook that are in DG school district, but to be fair of course custom built homes in Oak Brook are much more high end than more "builder grade" homes.

Very quiet, safe, harmonious. Racial mix similar to other parts of north Downers Grove, no worries about absentee land lords with low standards or any other negatives...

Not ideal for train commute , as you'd need parking at Fairview station but really otherwise easy walk to shopping...

Schools are similarly not walkably close but short bus ride away. Minor downside.
