You should also try Oberweis in St. Charles, they have great ice cream, too. Its right off Rt.64, just east of Randall Rd. Its maybe a 10 minute drive from central Geneva, and well worth it. Their peanut butter ice cream is to die for... big ol' slivers of frozen peanut butter mixed into that rich milk chocolate ice cream. Dang it, I miss home!!!

Yes, Oberweis is delicious. They are local Chicagoland chain, and can be found throughout the suburbs:

There is one in Wheaton too.

I live in Geneva so I am going to be very pro Geneva(just want to say that up front). The quality of life in the fox valley to me is the best in the Chicagoland metra for middle and upper middle class folks. The downtowns are charming(Geneva by far the best of the 3 IMO), the river and bridges in the towns, the parks, festivals, trails, balance of old shopping in the downtowns and new on Randall, and very good schools. The best part is the price per home. For the quality of life, real estate for Chicago metro in my opinion is the best.
Now if you have a job downtown or a spouse downtown I would agree with others that a closer in suburb is better. But if you work in the western burbs and visit downtown once in a while(most visit a lot when first moving to the area, but like anything novelty wears off and you go less and less, plus their are so many good restaurants and places to go in the suburbs as well) the to me the tri city area is a great place to live.

Oh yes, the best part IMO are the people, down to earth good people as a whole.

Steve-o - I love Oberweis! We used to have one near us but it closed. Thanks for the tip!

westburbsil - I agree with you! I thought the neighborhoods and homes in Geneva were fantastic (and of course the town itself is just so charming). I really liked how the houses and side streets just outside of downtown were still so green and pretty, but so close to everything! I think my husband is having a harder time than me in letting go of the city, so he wants to be closer....who knows, though, maybe in another year he'll change his mind! Geneva does seem like a great town! Thanks for the information!
