CTA bus service in Evanston will also be gone. I didn't realize how lucky I was when I lived in Evanston and didn't have to own a car. If all of the budget cuts happen the public transportation situation in Evanston will be pretty grim.

There is always the Metra service. Which stops at Central Street, Downtown, and Main Street. This will only take you to other North Shore suburbs or Clybourn or the Loop.

I would just as soon get on Sheridan Rd. south to LSD and then to the Stevenson Expwy and go to Midway then try to get to O'Hare from Evanston

Many North Shore residents also use Chicago Executive, but you have to have a private jet!

Hi Big,
I grew up in Evanston and enjoyed many of its amenities. It is close to down town and there is excellent public transportation, but as others have mentioned some things may be changing due to budget cuts. As for getting to O'Hare I think you can take the train but it might be a bit of a ride.

Something else to consider is that Evanston rents aren't cheap and neither is housing (purchase). It's not uncommon for a so-so 1 br to be $1,000 a month.

Also, night life in Evanston usually consists of a nice meal and a movie. If that's too slow for you just jump on the train and go into the city.

I would recommend checking out the Pioneer Press Evanston Review. It is a local paper that you can check out on line for rentals and other community information. Best of luck to you!
