Hi,

I am now looking for properties in the northern suburbs of Chicago. The schools here seem to be really nice.

However, I have a bit concern regarding the commute time. If I choose to live in Wilmette or Glenview, and I work at the west end of Chicago Avenue, how long it will take to do a single-trip?

The time might varies throughout the day. Imaging that I can get off at 6 or 6h30, while the traffic is a bit more friendly.

Can anyone help to answer my question?

Thanks a lot !

Chicago Avenue starts at Lake Shore Drive and runs westward all the way out to the suburbs. It stretches nearly 12 miles. Could you be more specific about which part of Chicago Avenue?

Also, how long of a commute would you be comfortable with?

There's a nice app called Waze that gives you real time info. They also have a website. Just type addresses into the Live Map section. You can also ask it for estimates for other times.

If you are using the Kennedy traffic times can very widely. Probably
Good traffic 30-45minutes
moderate traffic 1:15
heavy traffic 1:30
severe traffic 2 hours rarely even more.

You might consider living by the purple line and taking that to Chicago and Franklin. That would be consistently about an hour.

Wow, I knew the Kennedy was bad, but 1.5 hours for <18 miles is brutal. That's about as bad a time as I ever saw driving in from the western burbs, but my town is a full 27 miles away. I'm on Metra now, and it saves a ton of time, but I don't think that's an option with the OP's work address.

Park Ridge schools are excellent as well -- maybe the commute would be slightly shorter from there?

The Kennedy can be quite brutal. 30-45 minutes just from downtown to the junction is pretty typical. The Edens can backup as well. The Ohio Feeder can also be quite bad.
