Hi everyone,

I'm wanting to go to Chicago soon. I'm wanting to save some money on lodging and parking by staying outside of the city. I was wondering if you could recommend any suburbs to look for hotels in that aren't run down and that have decent rail access to downtown?

Thanks!

Evanston? Oak Park? I am assuming you will want something walking distance to the railroad station?

Hotels near mag mile are cheap right now. I just stayed at the Whitehall for $69/night. I didn't have a car, though.

Thanks! Something within walking distance would be ideal. I'm just not familiar with the Chicago area at all to know where to begin looking.

I would do that too if I could find a deal like that. It didn't even cross my mind to look near there. It was pretty spendy when we stayed there this summer.

If I did stay downtown, do you know if there are Park and Ride lots in the burbs? I wouldn't want to pay downtown prices for parking again.

Check hotels.com. There are a lot of deals in the winter. I just looked and aside from NYE, there are a lot of decent hotels for less than $80. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about parking.

If you find a cheap hotel in the loop or near mag mile, you could find reasonable parking near the Rosemont Blue line stop (there are several lots for airport parking), and then take a 35 minute train trip into the City. Rosemont is also one of the best places to look for a room if you can't snag a good deal in the City itself.

We've stayed downtown a few times in January and February with a free parking/free wifi deal at a downtown hotel. The downtown hotels usually offer great deals on the weekends in the winter.

If you can't find a similar deal, look around O'Hare. There are many decent hotels in the area and you can park at the Rosemont El station.
