Hello all. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on finding a decent apartment in Zion, IL. I have heard pretty negative reviews about the area but, I know crime can happen almost anywhere. I just received an offer to work at the hospital and will be moving pretty soon. I also would not mind commuting from a surrounding area if it is better suited for me. I would like to know what areas to avoid as well. I just recently finished graduate school so still fairly young and would like to be able to maintain a social life with young professionals.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Zion is a run down former industrial town with not much to recommend it.

Surrounding areas like Libertyville are much nicer, but also quite a bit more costly.

You could also look in towns like Gurnee, that have a large number of modern apartments, or even downtown Kenosha WI which has a surprisingly well developed waterfront...

Seriously? I have to agree with Chet. There are some OK areas, but not generally. It wasn't a great place when the nuclear plant was there, but at least it was a big tax money source.

Zion is not good. Kenosha is way better. But if I were to live in Zion I would probably be west of Lewis Ave, just personally.

Most of Lake Co E of Rt 131 and north of Great Lakes naval base is crappy or mediocre.

As a young professional, you won't want to live in Zion. Kenosha is also an industrial town, but it has a nice lakefront and a downtown with a number locally owned restaurants. Much more going on. I'd look there first if you want proximity to Zion (only about 10-15 mins up Sheridan). If you don't mind being a little further away, Libertyville is a great option but, like Chet said, will be quite a bit more expensive than Kenosha. Good luck!

I agree I ride to Kenosha frequently in the nicer months of the year and the downtown and lakefront are very nice.
