We are going to relocate for a job in West Chicago. I do not know the area and I need to do my preliminary house search before travelling there. Which are the good/safe neighborhoods and which are the areas to stay away from?

Thanks

Biggest determining factor will be your budget... hard to make any kind of recommendation without knowing. That said, charming, safe and great schools:

East of West Chicago is Wheaton and Glen Ellyn.
West of West Chicago is Geneva, St. Charles and Batavia.
South of West Chicago is Naperville.

Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Geneva and Naperville are all serviced by Metra, our suburban rail system, which makes traveling to Chicago quite easy.

I live in Wheaton, and there's lots to recommend. We are the safest city of our size in Illinois and were recently ranked as one of the top 13 suburbs in Chicagoland: Chicago’s Best Places to Live. There's plenty to do with the little ones, too: we have our own little zoo, nature center, WWII museum, historic home museum, equestrian center, waterpark, huge sledding hill, local history museum, living history farm, robust park district, beautiful formal gardens, forest preserves, tot lots galore and a charming, historic downtown district complete with ice cream parlors and an old-fashioned candy shop. Our downtown also plays host to a number of annual festivals and parades, so there's always something fun around the corner.

Four-bed home prices range from $400k on the low side to $1mil+ on the high side.

Based on your ranges we need to stay on the low side then because we are planning on paying for private school too.

If you're going to pay for private school then I'd just live in West Chicago and save on housing costs.

There are lots of nice areas of West Chicago. What would your budget be? Around 400K from the sound of it? I would recommend looking around the Indian Knoll Rd area. Lots of great homes back there, with huge, wooded lots. Homes should be in your range in there.

You should also move witin a reasonable distance from the private school you're planning on sending your kids too.

My car broke down on Indian Knoll Road one time to the point that it could no longer be driven. Had to get it towed. All of the residents were quite nice and helpful.

Depends on where! The subdivision behind Batavia/Fox Trail South (Hartfield Estates), is plenty nice. Might be better to live in the party in the BPS101 for better resale value, though!

North Aurora is a nice town. It's VERY different from Aurora.
