Wauconda is a neat town (I live in Lake Zurich) but that commute would be a nightmare. Just nothing but stop and go traffic lights from 176-60/83-45-22 etc.

I drive it every day... not the best, but not a nightmare. It's all stop and go, though, so that does need to be kept in mind.

I have coworkers who live in Crystal Lake, Elgin, even Marengo and Rockford. Now those commutes are nightmares.

There are a lot of people who work near the I 294 corridor who commute from Southeastern Wisconsin. Kenosha, Pleasant Prairie, etc. If the job location is at the Tri State Tollway (I 294) and Willow Road (like Allstate, Astellas, Caremark), the drive from Kenosha is not bad at all, especially at the defacto I 94 and 294 speed "limits". And it is all highway (94 and 294). You could get something fairly nice within your budget there and be well within your 1 hour commute limit.
