Any thoughts on Hoffman Estates? Schools, taxes, home prices...etc.
If compare to Arlington Heights, Palatine which would you recommend for family with 250.000 budget, looking for townhouse and yearly gross income around 90K?

Schools are good, not as good as Palatine and Arlington Heights schools, but still good. Hoffman Estates is definitely more affordable and you'll get more bang for your buck.

They're all safe towns. However, in Palatine and AH there's townhome areas north of Dundee road and by Palatine HS that are sketchy. Other then that Palatine and AH are safe and so is Hoffman Estates

Hoffman Estates if it feeds into Fremd High School. Otherwise Arlington Heights then Palatine if it feeds into Fremd instead of Palatine High School. There are a lot more sketchy parts of Hoffman Estates than Palatine or Arlington Heights.

The area is very nice, nouveau riche suburbia. I live in an apartment in Winnetka and while I don't like it because I don't fit into the whole stepford yuppie archetype, I can see why the North burbs appeal to upper middle class folks with kids. However just to let you know: Hoffman, Niles and Skokie are getting very very very Asian. It's not a bad thing, they are good people however their culture does lend itself to insularity and you may feel isolated from your neighbors in certain area because you are not Asian. However for people who like Asian food and don't wanna talk to their neighbors anyways, it's fine. Prepare for your kid to have some competition for smartest kid in math class however! Lol jk

Good luck

Hoffman Estates is where I grew up and hung out. There are two part...old Hoffman is near Schaumburg and new Hoffman is more towards Barrington and Palatine. Old Hoffman is middle class and can get a little seedy at times. New Hoffman is upper middle class and stereotypical suburban. All of Hoffman Estates goes to D211 high schools which are good schools.

All three are good. It really depends on your budget.
