We are relocating to the Chicago area and are interested in villages within easy commute to Chicago. We are not interested in nightlife, malls etc - just land, space, big house. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Check over in the "CHICAGO SUBURBS" section. You will find a wealth of info on suburbs there.

What is your definition of an easy commute? 15 minutes? 30 minutes, 1 hr? 2 hrs?

Also -- what is your price range for a home. that could help narrow it down.

What you're looking for can be found exactly in NW Indiana and much cheaper. Depending what you look at, the commute won't be worse than most IL suburbs.
See or post in Indiana section.

Hi

We moved from Illinois last year and spent 7.5 years there....
Check out Lake Zurich, Barrington, Longrove, Kildeer. Algonquin has some big homes but I am not sure there will be enough 'land' for you.

Schools have a good reputation in Crystal Lake and Huntley.

I know a great Estate Agent if you need one.

Good Luck!

Specifically, in NW Indiana look at Crown Point, Chesterton, St John and a bit further out Valparaiso.

I have no idea what your price range is, but check out Lemont, Palos Park, Palos Heights, Homer Glen, Frankfort, Mokena, the west side of Orland Park (West of 104th Ave), and New Lenox if you are looking for a big house with a decent sized lot. Palos Park is probably your best bet at commuting into the Loop as it is only about a 30-40 minute drive in during normal conditions and about an hour during the AM rush. P.P. is loaded with custom built homes tucked away on large heavily wooded lots (yes there are a ton of deer, raccoons, foxes, among other fluffy little animals there) so it really gives you the illusion that you are out in the middle of the northwoods when in fact you are surrounded by city. (FYI, the area in that town with large lots, huge houses, and a very rural atmosphere is from La Grange Road on the west end to 84th Avenue on the east end and from Rte 83 on the north end to 131st Street on the south.)

Also if you do go into that town, check this place out!!! The Plush Horse - Palos Park, IL, 60464 - Citysearch
