We are planning a movie to a town/city near Lisle, Illinois, and are looking at Wheaton, Warrenville, and Naperville. We will be moving with a ten year old from the southern U.S. and are looking for a town/city with great schools for a new student making a major move. Need to be within 30-40 minutes of Lisle, and would like to spend in the $450,000.00 range for housing. Obviously home prices are much higher than what we are used to, and may need to adjust. Looking for a school that would be a good fit for our child as he is apprehensive about the move and we are trying to make the transition easy for him. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Would love some feedback on the "culture" of the schools in the different areas (mainly the Middle and High Schools). Thank you!

The towns you're looking at are all good choices. Imo, I would pick Naperville. Naperville is the closest to Lisle and is the most affordable. Naperville has 2 school districts, 203 and 204. Both districts are good and determining which one you prefer really depends on what you're looking for specifically in a school. You could also look at the parts of Lisle that feed into 203 or Downers Grove schools which are also good.

If you're willing to be 20-25 minutes away from Lisle, looking at southeastern Batavia and northeastern Aurora (D204/Batavia) might be a good fit for you as well!

I would choose Naperville 203 over 204. I wold also find homes in Lisle, Woodridge and Bolingbrook that go to Naperville 203. You won't be disappointed.

Also a good strategy.

Homes in these towns are more affordable, so you won't really have to sacrifice a lot of house to be on a great school district. For 204, the parts of Aurora in the district and the parts of Plainfield in the district are also affordable.

Wheaton is a wonderful place to live. Of all the places mentioned on this thread, Wheaton and Napeville are the nicest and the closest. South Wheaton is closer to Lisle than some places in Naperville. Be careful with Naperville, its so big and sprawled out you could be quite far from Lisle depending. Although Naperville is very nice, I am partial to Wheaton, I have lived there since 1989. You will be able to find a house in your price range there. It will not be the biggest and newest but still nice. We have wonderful parks, schools, library system, shopping, and are located near lines of transportation and roads that go directly into the city and to other suburbs. Although the downtown area is not a large as Napervilles its still nice and we are also located very close to Glen Ellyn with all the shopping and restaurants it may have to offer. Naperville too is a ten minute drive from where I live. You can't really beat Wheaton. Batavia is nice too but its farther away and no reason to live there and add driving time on when you have such nice places close by. Warrenville too is in Wheaton school district and very close to Wheaton...nothing wrong with it but I see no real reason to live there if you don't have to. I'd skip Woodridge, Bolingbrook or north Aurora, they are further away and not as nice.

I agree with many points here! Naperville and Wheaton are both awesome places, but Batavia's "far-ness" could lead to some potential bargains in regards to nice, even upscale, housing. Since they're commuting to Lisle and not Chicago/farther out, I thought that it could be a nice alternative if they wanted to get more "bang for their buck" so to speak. Not arguing that Wheaton/Naperville aren't great. I think Warrenville is underrated, and the part of North Aurora feeding into Batavia schools is nearly indistinguishable from the rest of Batavia.

Woodridge and B-Brook have blah areas, but similarly, I had a relative that lived in both Woodridge and B-Brook (in the 203 sections both times no less!) and the housing stock tended to "match" the fact it was in 203. Since those areas are in 203, this makes them easily accessible to the rest of Naperville. Just because you don't live in a town doesn't mean you're not allowed to take advantage of a neighboring town's cool amenities (and personally, I enjoy the Bolingbrook Promenade, it's not downtown Naperville substitute, but it's not so bad).

Woodridge is actually very close to Lisle. The southeastern parts are less than 15 minutes away from Lisle. The parts of Woodridge that feed into 203 are actually one of the closer areas to Lisle.

The "Green Trails" area of Lisle is very nice and in your price range.
