Hi. I am trying to help my 22 year old daughter find an apartment in Naperville (or surrounding area), as she just got her first (low-paying!) professional job in Naperville. She will only have a few days in August to actually see places before starting her new job, so we are trying to do as much as possible on-line before she arrives (we live in Oregon). She needs to find a studio or 1 bedroom apartment in a safe area with a not-too-bad commute to northwest Naperville. Ideally keeping rent w/utilities to $850 or less per month. We would really appreciate any suggestions on locations, specific apartment complexes, and/or how to find apartments that are not in the big complexes. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

You will likely need to expand you search to include towns adjacent to Naperville that are little less well know and therefore a bit more affordable.

Lisle is quite acceptable: 4500 Beau Monde Dr APT 404, Lisle, IL 60532 is For Rent | Zillow

Woodridge should also be considered -- Rental Listings in Woodridge IL - 2 Rentals | Zillow

If northwest Naperville is your target, you might also look at Aurora or Batavia. The farther west you go, the less expensive things will be. Naperville proper will probably be outside your price range.

Apartments.com lets you draw your own search circle, which could be helpful. I saw one in northwest Naperville that was in your price range, and a several more in the Aurora/Batavia area.

I agree with the other poster - Lisle is a really cute town, although a little farther east. If you search around the I-88 expressway, it wouldn't be a bad drive to NW Naperville.

Thank you! I had heard that Aurora has some areas that are safe, and some that are less so. How can I find out which areas are safer?

I would look along the I-88 corridor of Aurora. There's some nice apartments in that area. D204 and the Batavia school districts are pretty stringent on what they give permission to build in that part of Aurora, so the rental options there are pretty nice. There are a handful of apartments in Batavia that are pretty nice, and even though I am a tried-and-true ardent supporter of Batavia, I've gotta say the majority of rental properties are "meh" at best.

If you stick in apartments on the I-88 corridor of Aurora that fall within Batavia/D204 boundaries, it would be pretty legit if you're looking farther out. Plus, the outlet mall and the downtowns of Aurora, Naperville, Batavia and Geneva would not be a far drive in terms of things to "do."
