My brother is looking for a rental at a max of $1400-$1600. He's looking for a small house or a townhouse, no condos or apartments. He's ok with a duplex, not sure about a two-flat but I think he won't mind. I've been looking at Highland Park, Highwood, Northbrook, Glenview (couldn't find anything ), Deerfield (couldn't find anything either), Wheeling, and Buffalo Grove. I haven't really had much luck finding much. I found a few rentals, but it's difficult to find something in his budget.

I'm going to look in Vernon Hills too since it's more affordable (I thought the same thing for Wheeling but I haven't found much there. Where else should I look for him? As you can see, I'm looking at Northeast Cook and southeast Lake. Vernon Hills is the farthest northwest he can rent in and Arlington Heights is probably the furthest west he can go and not further south than Mt Prospect, is there anywhere else I should look in this area?

You can try Rolling Meadows and Palatine.

Thanks I will look into Rolling Meadows and Palatine. I've heard that there are some sketchy complexes of Rolling Meadows, so if he decides to rent a townhome there, what are the areas he should avoid?

Those off of Algonquin Road, I'd say. As for Palatine, I'd avoid Rand Road between Dundee and Rt. 53, anything off of Baldwin, and basically areas near Dundee/53 west to Rand.
