If you can find anything in Wheaton or Downers Grove those would be top choices in the western suburbs that might have a few decent options in your price range...

That's great that you've found some homes in Wheaton! Usually it's very difficult to find a decent home for $250k or under. Downers Grove is a less expensive option with good schools, but even in DG it's usually very difficult to find something nice under $250k, but if you found houses in Wheaton, it wouldn't hurt to look in DG too. Where will you be working?
