Hello,

I recently moved to southern central Evanston two blocks north of Howard St. from out of state. I Work in Lake Forest off of I-94 and E. Townline Rd. (60) in the corporate parks. The commute is less than ideal at usually between 45 mins - 60 mins. I am in a sublease until mid September and then would like to move somewhere with a better commute. I have thought about northern/north western Evanston - but am still concerned about the big slow down before the spur on I-94 and about the commute in the winter.

I am 27 and single. I'm looking for places that have a running club nearby and a crossfit gym nearby. Walk/Bikeable areas are important to me. I also like some cultural diversity, having lived some time in both Latin America and Asia. From my research, places like Glenview, Prospect Heights, or Mt. Prospect may be good for me in terms of a commute and being close to I-294. On the other side of the city areas like the Highland Park area seems like the only option. Up north away from the city there is Libertyville which doesn't excite me. The commute seems tough for the distance, it isn't closer towards the city, and it seems predominately white and republican.

I am leaning towards being closer to the city than farther away since I like to come into the city on the weekends and or ride my bike into the city.

Are there any places I'm missing or any suggested apartment complexes to look into? I'm only interested in renting and don't want to pay more than I have to. Ideally less than $900 a month and would also consider sharing an apartment.

Looking forward to the replies,

Thanks.

The areas you're thinking of now are good choices for you. I don't really think you should go north of Lake Forest. Everything north of LF is going to be boring, especially if Libertyville doesn't excite you. Gurnee and Vernon Hills are worth looking at, but that's about it north of work. South of work, also look at Skokie, Des Plaines, and Wheeling.
