What area of Indy are you moving from? I'm pretty familiar with Indy and its suburbs as well as Chicago and its suburbs. Since you stated you loved where you live, maybe finding a similar area could work out for you (although again, you may have to sacrifice on the type of home given your budget).

Take a look at the schools on Illinois Report card. Also, look at the subgroup comparisons showing low income scores vs non low income scores:
New Lenox:NEW LENOX SD 122 | Schools In District
LINCOLN WAY CHSD 210 | Schools In District
Lincoln Way Central and Lincoln Way West serve New Lenox and West is the better school out of the two.

Woodridge: WOODRIDGE SD 68 | Schools In District
CHSD 99 | Schools In District
Both schools serve Woodridge, but North is the better school out of the two.

Darien:DARIEN SD 61 | Schools In District
CASS SD 63 | Schools In District
HINSDALE SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL | School Snapshot

Overall, in terms of school quality it goes:
1. Darien
2. New Lenox
3. Woodridge
However, there are some schools in Woodridge that do better than some Darien and New Lenox schools, so it really depends on the exact schools you look at. Also, look at the districts' and schools' websites to see what they offer for your children. I have family in Woodridge and there kids did fine in the schools. They went to North High School after attending Woodridge schools and really liked it.

True, but Frankfort is out of the OP's budget.

Despite what the politicians say, Illinois still has advantages. I read Whirlpool is building a warehouse in Joliet for similar reasons.

There's quite a few single-family homes at and under the OP's budget in Frankfort. They may not be the newest homes, but they are there. Mostly in the Frankfort Square area but still very good schools.

In indy we live in Mccordsville. So very quite love our home and safe area. We've been weighing the pros and cons of moving and even with a raise thats the only pro to moving and wed be house broke due to high taxes. Thanks for thr input but we most likely won't make the move.

No problem! Glad we could help. If you do move and want a place similar to McCordsville (I know McCordsville is growing and becoming much more suburban than before), I would check out New Lenox or Manhattan. That would be the closest to McCordsville with the exception of bigger schools.

New Lenox or Homer Glen.

HG was recently named the safest community in Illinois also.

I agree with dacas1. Homer Glen is a GREAT area. New Lenox and Lockport are also nice options. I am a Realtor and I live in Homer. There are many nice homes in the area.
