Friends,

I am Planning to relocate to Burr Ridge and I like to know abt the weather, schools and the community. I am coming from California and all my life I haven't lived anywhere near snow, so will it be hard for me to get adjusted?

Please advise,
Thanks
Smitha

Burr Ridge is lovely. Actually, the largest residential home in the Chicago area is being built there ...

Weather. Well, it gets cold. The sun goes down around 5pm during the winter. The key is dress in layers, allow more drive time, purchase a snow blower or hire a service. Get ready for major property taxes. The school system is very good ... feeds into Hinsdale South, I believe.

You can't go wrong really.

Cool Burr Ridge is nice

Hi,
Good choice for living in Burr Ridge, it has great schools, it is very safe, and it is very expensive as well. Burr Ridge is split between Cook and Du Page counties. Like most towns in Chicagoland, the snow gets cleared very fast, so that shouldn't be an issue. Good Luck!

Burr Ridge is really nice and parts don't even feel like Illinois. Expect to spend around a million with most homes in the area being priced above that. There are some spectacular new homes. I've got relatives in California and you'll get much more space compared to LA or San Fran. Same is true for surrounding Hinsdale/Oak Brook area. You will be right by I-55 and I-294 so you will be able to travel downtown and to the airports with ease. The Gower schools are very good, most kids go to Hinsdale South with a few sections north going to Hinsdale Central and Elm school. I don't think you ever get used to the cold but a great snowy day is so beautiful. Welcome!

The weather is going to be tough to get used to. It gets dark around 4:30pm or so this time of year and we can have almost entire weeks of below zero temperatures and wind chills. The weather can change on a dime. Generally, if the winds are out of the north it gets cold and out of the south it gets warm.

We usually get 1 or 2 major snowstorms >8" a hand full of 4-8" and about 12-16 1-4" nuisance snows. This year has been very mild. We have only really had 1 minor snow storm ~4" and a couple of near zero and single digit days.

Summer it can be mild 70's or 90's with high humidity depending on the wind. I'd say last summer was about average.

The schools are generally pretty good. I ride through Burr Ridge with my bike club fairly regularly during the summer. It is a nice area with some hills, trails (the centennial trail along the Desplaines River).
