I'm a single professional female and will be relocating to northwest suburb of Chicago in mid Febuary for work. Just wonder if the area of down town Mundelein a safe neighborhood to live? I appreciate any advice.

I do not know much about Mundelein. My impression is that it is relatively safe. I have heard of a few murders, one at a fast food place. But, I would not worry about it. I would like to ask, why such a young proffesional would want to live so far out in a place like Mundelein?

Thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with the area and I would like to live within a reasonable drive to my future office in Mettawa area. I found this new development in downtown Mundelein that is only less than 10 miles away from the office location and the rent is reasonable. Is the area close to shops? Anyone can share any insights about the neighborhood? Thanks.

I would look for some places in Downtown Libertyville. It is very nice with older homes and shops. You would probably like it there because it is more vibrant and closer to Mettawa.

For the benefit of the OP, here is a link to the Mundeline page. At the bottom of the page is the crime report for the area and it does not show any murders.

I am not familiar enough with the town to offer any first hand information.

Is it possible to ask your future employer where they recommend you consider living, given you are single, renting and do not want a long commute?

Yeah, if he was referring to the Browns Chicken murders, that was in Palatine.

Yeah...if you're going to spout misinformation, at least make it recent. Apparently he's no longer a forum member. I'll sure miss the North Shore elitism!

Unfortunately my employer does not offer assistance in terms of housing search as part of the relocation package. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and information.
