Hello,

Looking for some advice from anyone who has been there: I am selling my home and moving to a new home in the same general area. The closing on both the sale and the buy are on the same day and I'm wondering how hiring the moving company will work. I can sign all the paperwork for my sale in advance and I do not need to be present at that closing, but the closing on my purchase will need to be complete while I close on it and before I take possession. The house I am buying is empty so it is possible I will be allowed to move in a few hours prior to close but I can't count on that occurring.

Is this a common issue and I'm over thinking it? Thanks for any ideas.

The majority of closings are part of "chain" of property transfers. Most go smoothly but it is worth having your agent(s) outline the potential issues for a "domino effect" if the BUYERS are unable to complete the purchase of your existing home and you are unable to close on your "new" home.

From a high level there are arguments to be made to have your belongings moved out of the house you are selling well before closing and consider staying with friends / getting a hotel for a night or two. The moving company likely will be able to transfer the contents of your home into a temporary storage facility for minimal / no cost. The seller that you are buying the new house from may very well be open to have you "move in prior to possession" either for free or with an easy to execute very short "lease"...
