If I live in Wicker Park/Bucktown, it looks like I can ride the Blue Line [Camden] to the [Cumberland] stop to get to work. I could just not bring my car then! (I really hate driving so much). And like you mentioned (and Google maps) it's about 25 minutes, which I think sounds great.

Is there a reason why no one has suggested this location though? I can definitely shell out more for rent to invest in housing and save in other aspects.
If you can actually ride the Blue Line El, that's perfect. Bucktown is great (I've lived near Wicker Park, and it's super convenient).

Make CERTAIN though, that you can take transit. Save the car $ and get a nicer place.

Have you considered Franklin park? It is quiet and more residential, but it does have some fun little bars and restaurants on the main strip, especially hop scotch. It is very close to ohare.

Bucktown does look reasonable, and it's a great neighborhood. But I'm really not sure enough to advise how painful the commute might be. If you can make transit work, it will often be faster. As long as your on during busy times, and follow basic rules of non-engagement, you should feel safe. Idk how many city people read this board. Maybe someone who does the same/similar commute you have in mind will weigh in.

It really depends if the OP can get from O'Hare or Rosemont to her job with ease. If so, this is a short 30 minute commute from Bucktown. If not, it would be a pain to transfer to a bus.

Riding the Blue line at almost any hour is safe, considering the O'Hare traffic -- just ride in cars with other people or near operators.
