We are interested in a house in Burr Ridge that is zoned for Pleasantdale Elementary and Middle school and also Lyons Township. Does anyone have any experience with the elementary or middle school?

We currently live in the city so this would be a big change for us. We have two small children. Thanks for your help.

Default Well...

Pleasandale D107 is somewhat unusual in how much area it covers / how spread out the district is. The NW corner of the district , east of Countyline Rd & north of the Stevenson, is quite removed from parts to the east & south, those corners are Brainerd Ave in Countryside and all the way down to the DesPlaines River. That means lots of time on the school bus for some kids and potentially lots of complicated car pools that snake across multiple tollroad / expressways to get kids together for activities.

The preference for many families is for more walkable homes in more compact areas served by Hinsdale / Clarendon Hills D181, LaGrange Highlands D106 or D101 in Western Springs. Of course the walkability means it is harder to find the bigger lots that are common with subdivisions of the type in D107. An alternative that feeds in desirable D86/ Hinsdale Central may be the portions of Oak Brook served by D53, though if work is closer to the Stevenson your commute might be longer...

Academically the performance is quite comparable when factoring for affluence (D107 serves a small pocket of more affordable rentals...) and relative finances are generally favorable ( quite a bit of the commercial properties in Burr Ridge lie in D107) so the decision really comes down mostly to what sort of environment you prefer. The price history of homes in Burr Ridge generally has been strongest for homes closest to D181 Elm school but that includes homes that are much closer to core of Hinsdale so the Metra access is likely part of the value equation...
