Thanks for all replies.

OTC is much closer to our offices, so I would prefer UP lines, but jobs change (but I expect our jobs to stay in downtown area), so this is not such a big deal for me.

I am not really looking for a large house and prefer small lots, but some of examples in the first response in more expensive cities look like 1000sf or less (none of them list footage, for obvious reasons). I don't think I can sacrifice that much for being able to walk to the train.

This house is walking distance to the train in Elmhurst. I happen to know the owners and know it has been very well cared for.

I think you have a lot of options, OP. It really comes down to what you want/need in a house.

This isn't true. We live on Green Bay Rd across from the tracks, and there's one train that blows four times every morning at about 6:45. Aside from that, the noise is surprisingly ignorable, even with windows open

Looking it up, it sounds like express trains should be doing that every time they're about to skip a station.

You are correct. My experience with the UP-North line, as well as Milwaukee North.
