Hello!

My husband and I will be relocating to a suburb of Chicago spring 17'. We currently live in a crowded NJ suburb and he commutes to Manhattan for work. We have two young children.

We are hoping to find a home for under $500k. We need a good school district and would hope that his train ride would be under an hour to the loop.

Something that is important to me is space. Right now we live on a lot where our neighbors house is ten feet from hours. I don't need acres of space but would prefer a little more privacy.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

You should probably post in the Chicago suburbs subforum, you'll get more responses.

We lived in the NW Chicago suburbs and could take a train into the Loop in about 1.5 hours. We were about one of the farthest points on the UPNW line in Cary/Crystal Lake, though. However, there are properties in Barrington or Palatine that are on double lots for under $400K. Research: Barrington, Palatine, and Arlington Heights. If you can put up with the extra commute time for potentially cheaper homes and quality schools (from what I recall), research: Crystal Lake.

Nah. Her budget and needs would lead her to AH.

Crystal Lake schools are nothing terribly special.

Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect Park Ridge would all be good choice in the NW Burbs. If you want even a bigger lot, look at Prospect Heights.

Can you say a little about the kind of suburb/neighborhood you would want to live in? Or give us a NY city/area for comparison, as your ideal? Also, tell us about the kind of home you are looking for (eg. number of bedrooms/size)?
